If this were a real post, there would be an actual subject here.
Actually, this is a backdated post I'm dumping into last week to collect any comments relevant to recent changes to my website, or any other questions or comments people might want to make that don't seem to fit elsewhere.

Just reread 'Rearranging Fate', pointed back to it again by Fig's post listing favorite stories. It's one of my favorites, as well, so I was glad to be pointed back to it! Anyway, I was wondering if you've ever thought about revisiting this SG-1? I'd really like to know more of their story.

Hi Betty!

Yes, I have thought about revisiting the Fate universe- one of the things that was fun about the first one was figuring out how the SGA could use the information they'd gotten from the SGC and still have it be surprising...that's surprising in the sense of getting them into lots of trouble, of course!

But for a sequel, things are pretty much wide-open. They could visit more S1/S2 planets of course, but they could also visit some of the same places from the later seasons. I've been collecting odds and ends of notes on thoughts, ideas and so forth, but I really haven't gotten to critical mass.

See, one of the techniques which I think is really suited to this kind of story is to have a bunch of smaller story arcs that overlap one another. Not unlike the show, really, but you also need to have some overarching themes to make the whole thing feel more coherent. In Fate, the theme is Daniel becoming part of the SGA, with a side helping of developing his relationships with other team members and dealing with Kawalsky's inflated expectations after meeting canon!Daniel (which he largely does by living up to them, but hey, that's why he's one of the heroes!). But that's the real missing element for a sequel story- what's the unifying idea of the piece? It's not Daniel finding a place, because I've done that. And it's not 'what happens next' because that's not a theme. One of the few things I know I want to include is figuring out what happens to Nick Ballard in this universe, and hopefully doing something more interesting with the Giant Aliens. But there's not more than a page or snippets- and considering that I haven't gotten around to stuff that's actually fully plotted and just needs to be written...well. I don't honestly know if or when I'm going to get to this. But if you have any ideas you'd like to throw out, go for it. You never know, I might get bitten by a rabid plot bunny and go wild. *g*

Sent you a message about over-arching themes. :) Used LJ, because I lost your email address in my hard drive change-over last week....

LJ has apparently eaten your message (or for some reason it's not showing up yet). I'm a paid user (permanent account), so you can always reach me at my LJ-username@livejournal.com, or my email is on my website (redbyrd at mindspring dot com).
