If this were a real post, there would be an actual subject here.
Actually, this is a backdated post I'm dumping into last week to collect any comments relevant to recent changes to my website, or any other questions or comments people might want to make that don't seem to fit elsewhere.

Hey there! I just reread the "Setting up House" series after being reminded of it by fig's rec. I *love* your take on the early episodes! I really hope you're going to continue it. I'm DYING to find out about that mission Carter doesn't want them to talk about during Emancipation. :-)

While I'm mostly a slasher, I do love good gen, too. Keep 'em coming!!!

Thank you! There will be more of this, actually, though it's been delayed for an unconscionably long time by a combination of a knotty plot problems and the vicissitudes of RL.

But unfortunately, one of things I don't have a good idea for is the mission Carter doesn't want to talk about! In the current draft, there's a link to Betacandy's story Acid Worms, where she's given us a terrific look at one possible course of events. Failing other inspiration, that's what I'll go with. (But even if I do come up with a different idea- you should read this...because once again, Teal'c pwns SG-1!)

Teal'c pwns SG-1

Like *that's* a surprise! :-)

Off to read it!

And it might be interesting to see a story that dealt with the event without ever actually telling us what it was. :-)

Great fic go Daniel!!! I especially loved the ask her but I wouldn't get too close loved the snark and him sticking up for Jack and especially asking them the under fire question because oh yes Daniel is becoming military whether he likes or not but he will always maintain his unique perspective as well. Off to read more of your fics. Found you via the awards but I would love to be on your update list thanks,
Atfan at GW.

I just reread your "Setting up House" stories and realized for the first time that there was a 'comment' option. So, yeah, sorry about the late review; I enjoyed it immensely. That pretty much applies to most of your stories, as well--I love how you make things reflective and plot-filled at once. Are you planning on continuing that particular series?

Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us!

The comment option was added fairly recently...*looks at post date*...er, well, recently compared to when I started posting fic *mutters darkly about the speed of time passing*.

And yes, I plan to finish this danged series, or die trying! I've got some 80,000 words more still swishing around on the hard drive. It's been backburned for a while now due to a severe attack of Real Life, and the next couple of segments are stuck in editing hell. However, you may have noticed that I've posted a few bits and pieces this year, and am slowly chiseling out some time in my schedule for writing.

Thanks very much for the FB!

Just reread 'Rearranging Fate', pointed back to it again by Fig's post listing favorite stories. It's one of my favorites, as well, so I was glad to be pointed back to it! Anyway, I was wondering if you've ever thought about revisiting this SG-1? I'd really like to know more of their story.

Hi Betty!

Yes, I have thought about revisiting the Fate universe- one of the things that was fun about the first one was figuring out how the SGA could use the information they'd gotten from the SGC and still have it be surprising...that's surprising in the sense of getting them into lots of trouble, of course!

But for a sequel, things are pretty much wide-open. They could visit more S1/S2 planets of course, but they could also visit some of the same places from the later seasons. I've been collecting odds and ends of notes on thoughts, ideas and so forth, but I really haven't gotten to critical mass.

See, one of the techniques which I think is really suited to this kind of story is to have a bunch of smaller story arcs that overlap one another. Not unlike the show, really, but you also need to have some overarching themes to make the whole thing feel more coherent. In Fate, the theme is Daniel becoming part of the SGA, with a side helping of developing his relationships with other team members and dealing with Kawalsky's inflated expectations after meeting canon!Daniel (which he largely does by living up to them, but hey, that's why he's one of the heroes!). But that's the real missing element for a sequel story- what's the unifying idea of the piece? It's not Daniel finding a place, because I've done that. And it's not 'what happens next' because that's not a theme. One of the few things I know I want to include is figuring out what happens to Nick Ballard in this universe, and hopefully doing something more interesting with the Giant Aliens. But there's not more than a page or snippets- and considering that I haven't gotten around to stuff that's actually fully plotted and just needs to be written...well. I don't honestly know if or when I'm going to get to this. But if you have any ideas you'd like to throw out, go for it. You never know, I might get bitten by a rabid plot bunny and go wild. *g*

Sent you a message about over-arching themes. :) Used LJ, because I lost your email address in my hard drive change-over last week....

LJ has apparently eaten your message (or for some reason it's not showing up yet). I'm a paid user (permanent account), so you can always reach me at my LJ-username@livejournal.com, or my email is on my website (redbyrd at mindspring dot com).
